The Listen Project's mission is deeply rooted in fostering positive change within communities through education and active community engagement.
Our children are impacted, on a daily basis not only by life's constant changes; they are going through puberty and immense peer pressure. On top of that they have to endure societal issues such as gangsterism, drug trafficking, abuse, bullying, and other negative socio-economic factors prevalent in communities.
Regrettably, the plight of the real victims, children, often goes unnoticed. It is imperative that we lend an ear to the voices of our children who are affected by the myriad of social ills present in our society. The Listen Project serves as a vehicle to raise awareness within communities to listen to their voices.
Learners are encouraged to write about anything affecting them. Topics range from the impact of Covid-19, alcohol abuse, peer pressure, gangsterism, challenges with the family structure, drug trafficking, bullying, poverty, as well as the tragic loss of family members, friends, classmates, or neighbours due to violence and suicide.
The compilation of essays, poems, song lyrics, stories, drawings, and paintings submitted by learners form the content of the book published by the Listen Project.
We print the books for free and it is up to the school to sell it and use the proceeds from the sales of the book for projects within the school.
The advantages for the children seeing their name and work in print is powerful and far reaching!
We leave it up to parents and teachers to see and hear for themselves!
